About the Foundation

The Fort Totten State Historical Foundation, once called Friends of Fort Totten State Historical Site, has been in operation since 1960 and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1971.  The Foundation consists of a dedicated group of citizens who understand the value of the State Historical Site.  This group works to provide support to the Fort Totten Historical Site through raising funds for targeted projects and to provide volunteer assistance for various community events.  Most recently the Foundation conducted fund raising events with the goal of raising $100,000 to show local support to the ND State Legislature’s decision to provide $500,000 for renovation of the Hospital/Cafeteria Museum.  This project was completed in the summer of 2017.
The greatest long-term project for the Foundation was the renovation of the captain’s quarters which resulted in the amazing Bed and Breakfast facility called the Totten Trail Inn. The Foundation continues to manage this facility providing staff and upkeep for this beautiful residence.
The Foundation has a 14 member board and approximately 150 members. Anyone interested in supporting the mission of the Fort Totten Historic Site is invited to become a member of the Foundation.
